Hamburger meat, in any form, is one of the most popular and inexpensive meats out there. There are literally millions of hamburger recipe ideas on the web, many that don’t even require a specific kind of hamburger meat. Although, when it comes time to make dinner, we’re often left scrambling for a recipe idea.
The following hamburger recipe ideas are simple, many containing only a few ingredients. I have purposely left these recipe ideas as basic, so that you may use the list to come up with a specific dinner idea with hamburger meat based on the ideas given.
One of my absolute favorite dinner idea for hamburger meat is tacos. With a package of taco seasoning, shredded cheese, and other assorted toppings, you can easily turn a pound of ground hamburger meat into a fabulous dinner idea. Our favorite toppings include tomato, various kinds of cheese, and sour cream.
If you want something a little more creative than plain tacos, you can make crispy burritos using the same ingredients. The only real difference for this hamburger recipe idea is that you bake it instead of serving immediate when the meat is done.
To make crispy burritos, cook your hamburger as normal and add your taco seasoning. Scoop the meat over large flour taco shells and add an equal amount of shredded cheese. Fold in two sides, then roll up from the bottom to make a burrito. Bake in the oven at 400* until shell is golden brown. (Usually about 20 mins).
Yet another taco-related hamburger recipe we’ve used a lot in the past is Walking Tacos. Instead of soft or hard shells, you simply use Doritos with your hamburger meat and toppings. The kids love this one, because they think they are getting junk food for dinner!

1 Pkg Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning
Brown Hamburger and add the rest of the seasonings and simmer. Top with Crackers and Cheese. Very easy, just open up cans and dump! Can be frozen.
Hamburgers (As in BURGERS!)
While it was barely worth mentioning that you can make burgers with hamburger meat (duh, right?), there is a FANTASTIC recipe I must share. If you are a fan of Big Macs, I recommend trying out this sauce the next time you have hamburgers for dinner.
BIG MAC SAUCE:
1/4 cup Miracle Whip
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons french salad dressing
1/2 tablespoon sweet relish
2 teaspooons dill pickle relish
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried, minced onion
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon ketchup
1/8 teaspoon salt
Mix together and allow to flavors to blend for about an hour before using. We’ve used this recipe MANY times, and absolutely love it!
The fun part about this hamburger recipe idea is you can remove whatever ingredients seem offending. I recommend keeping the vinegar and sugar in as your base, as it is what gives the sauce it’s fantastic flavor. It’s also a base you can use for homemade cold slaw, which goes great with a hamburger dinner.
Pizza and Pasta
Hamburger is a great meat to use along side pasta, especially Italian dishes. Here are three of our favorite family recipe ideas:
It might be a little extra work on most weeknights, but it is a fantastic way to get the family involved in cooking. See our post on how to make homemade pizza for using hamburger and building your pizza.
Kid favorite, made especially easy with oven-ready lasagna noodles. Our 4-ingredient lasagna is a monthly menu item. The ingredients can stay the same and the pasta can be changed to anything you want (such as spaghetti noodles for a cheesy spaghetti bake or elbow macaroni for goulash). Just make sure noodles are cooked before you bake them, unless they are specifically for oven ready.
Great use of egg noodles, which are often more cost effective depending what’s on sale. I hear the “real” way to make Stroganoff is with steak or roast, but I prefer ground hamburger. You can see our Beef Stroganoff recipe here.
