Recipes Using Stale Bread

Bread doesn’t usually last too long in this house, especially if it’s homemade. The kids love to snack on it and when it’s homemade, I don’t feel guilty. It really is good for them, and I’d much rather them be eating bread instead of candy.

I actually only have one recipe using stale bread, but it’s a good one. Honestly I have to make it the day after the bread is made before it’s completely gone.

This recipe is best when used with a great bread to start with - such as homemade bread or french bread. Actually, the recipe calls for french bread and that’s all I’ve ever made it with. But I’m sure it can be made with any stale bread you have on hand.

Garlic Croutons
1 loaf day old French bread
1 Tablespoons garlic powder
2 Tablespoons dried basil
1/2 cup vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 400* F. Cut bread into small cubes and place onto a shallow baking pan. Drizzle oil over bread to lightly cover and sprinkle with garlic powder and basil. Bake for 5-10 mins, or until lightly brown and toasted.

These are terrific on salads, or to just munch on. YUM!
